GPX Files on the iPhone (with a Mac)

If you use an iPhone rather than a Garmin for all your GPS and navigation needs, there is a nice (free/shareware) solution for recording tracks and swapping them to and from the phone if you use a Mac. If you use a PC, there are probably solutions available, but I don't know them.

You will need two pieces of software:

  1. TrailRunner: runs on the mac and lets you do interesting things/analysis with GPS tracks. Exports to iphone, ipods, garmin devices, etc. (direct download link)

  2. RaceBunny: iPhone companion software for TrailRunner. (direct download link).

To save a GPX file on the mac from this page, right-click or control-click on the link and choose "Download Linked File As...". Make sure you name your file with a .gpx rather than the .xml it will want to use. After that, you can import the .gpx into TrailRunner, and sync it to RaceBunny on your phone.
